...Therapeutics for Muscular Dystrophy?
Please contact Dr. Jonathan B. Strober (stroberj@neuropeds.ucsf.edu)

I am seeking a medical student to help with a brand-new study that will investigate the possible benefits of mycophenolate mofetil in Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy by testing the drug in the mouse model (mdx mouse). My long-term goal is to continue to evaluate therapeutic options for muscular dystrophy in the laboratory and then bring them to clinical trials as well as developing studies to better understand the pathophysiology of muscular dystrophy based on the effect of the therapeutics tested.

The Job: Assist Dr. Strober in daily care of the study animals, including injecting study drug, harvesting the muscles from the study animals, preparing biopsy slides for review, evaluating the samples and in authoring papers.

The Rewards: Potential authorship on any publication, benchtop lab experience, working with rodents and slide preparation and the opportunity to develop an independent research project based on this study.

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated medical student who would like to participate at a high level in a research project at its early stages.

Completion of the first two years of medical school is preferred but not required.
