..Interested in Headache Research?

Please contact Dr. Christoph Schankin (mike.steinman@ucsf.edu)

This clinical research project is conducted at the Headache Center (Head: Prof. Peter Goadsby) of the Department of Neurology. The aim is to clinically characterize patients with the visual disturbance called "visual snow". Patients with this rare disorder suddenly realize small black and white spots in the whole visual field together with some additional visual symptoms, such as after-images or flashes of light. Currently, the pathophysiology of this disabling condition is unknown and any treatment is unsuccessful. The medical student’s role would involve a structured telephone interview in patients after thorough training. Ideally, the interview should start in the middle of August 2011 and should be completed within two months. The student will have the opportunity to participate in the exciting characterization of a rare disease by getting access to both, clinical work and research. The work can be done with flexible time management.
